Gap Year and Careers Breaks in Sri Lanka

If you are thinking about taking your gap year or a career break in Asia or India, you should take a closer look at Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka is a fantastic place to take your gap year or career break. It is a relatively small country so you can get to see most of its attractions while you are here. There is something for everyone from ancient temples, such as Dambulla, picturesque cities like Kandy, National Parks to see wildlife, breathtaking scenery and not forgetting the many idyllic tropical beaches.

The volunteer projects that we have chosen have been done so with a lot of care. They are mainly in very poor areas. So your being there will make such a difference to many people and not just children. You will be welcomed with open arms by the community as Sri Lankans are very hospitable and you will have the experience of a lifetime.

We are very experienced with gap year and career breaks as Sue has worked extensively as a volunteer English teacher in a schools throughout Sri Lanka. We therefore have an intimate knowledge of what it is like and what to expect so you will get the most from your gap year/career break experience.

All our past volunteers are very happy to be contacted by email so you can get a real feel of what it has been like for others.

Testimonials

Thank you so so so much for our amazing time in Sri Lanka, we really appreciate all the hard work that you put in. It was simply fantastic fun, the teaching was unbelievable and the weekend trips were brilliant, it is such a wonderful country and so beautiful too. I could ramble on for ages about all the things we did and the great times we had, but I'm sure you have heard it all before!

We really just wanted to say how truly excellent our experience with your company was, so much thought has gone into every aspect and it really shows. The fact that you do not charge volunteers much money to stay is really really good, Flossie and I would not have been able to afford to go with any other company and would have missed out. We urge you to keep it this way as it seems that everyone benefits, the school, us, our drivers and hotel, etc! We felt like we really did some good at the school and that the pupil’s English improved even in the short time we were there. The school also reported that their usually low attendance had drastically changed, and the children were coming in just so they could learn English and enjoyed our lessons, which was very warming for us.

An amazing trip. The children were a pleasure to teach and the company arrnaged everything we needed, before and during the trip. Thank you for an excellent experience.

Just thought I'd send a quick email to thank you for organising my volunteer work so well. I've had such a good 2 months and leaving the orphanage was so heartbreaking, I have absolutely loved it. I'll be back next year definitely, if only for 3 or 4 weeks, so I'll stay in touch.
Hope you're well, thanks again!

I had a brilliant time over in Sri Lanka, the people and country are amazing. I was made to feel so welcome at the Orphanage by Kumudu and all his staff. The staff of The Unique Travel Co were brilliant - even organised my trips round the country for me - nothing was too much trouble for them. It has been the experience of a lifetime - thank you so much.

This has been a totally life-changing experience for us. It is clear that everyone at The Unique Travel Co is determined to make a difference in Sri Lanka and we thank them for everything that they did to make our stay so very memorable. The families we stayed with were brilliant and involved us in everything.  Life back in the UK is going to seem so dull after all the fun and laughter we had at the Orphanage!
