Gap Year and Careers Breaks in Sri LankaSri Lanka is a fantastic place to take your gap year or career break. It is a relatively small country so you can get to see most of its attractions while you are here. There is something for everyone from ancient temples, such as Dambulla, picturesque cities like Kandy, National Parks to see wildlife, breathtaking scenery and not forgetting the many idyllic tropical beaches. The projects that we have chosen have been done so with a lot of care. They are mainly in very poor areas. So your being there, will make such a difference to many people and not just children. You will be welcomed with open arms by the community as Sri Lankans are very hospitable and you will have the experience of a lifetime. We are also very experienced with gap years and career breaks as Sue has worked extensively as a volunteer English teacher in a schools throughout Sri Lanka. We therefore have an intimate knowledge of what it is like and what to expect so you will get the most from your gap year/career break experience. TeachingTeaching English in schools in the Negombo area Supplementary optional afternoon activities: Extra tuition for children, English tuition classes for adults, time at beach or by pool of local hotel. Working in an OrphanageWe have placements either in Orphanages that provide homes for children who have no parents or those that provide a home for children with mental and physical disabilities. Volunteer accommodationStay with a local Sri Lankan family in your own private room and bathroom (possibly sharing with another volunteer). If you choose to work in the Orphanage for children with mental and physical disabilities, you will be accommodated in a small hotel very close by.

TestimonialsJust thought I'd send a quick email to thank you for organising my volunteer work so well. I've had such a good 2 months and leaving the orphanage was so heartbreaking, I have absolutely loved it. I'll be back next year definately, if only for 3 or 4 weeks, so I'll stay in touch. Helen Upton, Dover I had a brilliant time over in Sri Lanka, the people and country are amazing. I was made to feel so welcome at the Orphanage by Kumudu and all his staff. The staff of The Unique Travel Co were brilliant - even organised my trips round the country for me - nothing was too much trouble for them. It has been the experience of a lifetime - thank you so much. Sarah Matthews, London Jane Pearson and Katie Saunders, Bristol Volunteers working in the Boys Orphanage, November 2009
