Travel in Sri Lanka with the Unique Travel Company

• The Unique Travel Company (Sri Lanka) Limited is co-owned by Sue Gregory (a British national) who will run the British side of the company and Roshan Fernando (a Sri Lankan National) who will run the Sri Lankan side. Roshan has been working as a national tourist guide lecturer in Sri Lanka for over a decade for a leading British travel company. He is indisputably one of the best guides in the country. Roshan has been involved in a number of projects across Sri Lanka including the organisation of the building of the 3 Tsunami houses that Sue raised funds for.

• Sue has run her own business for many years. She recently discovered Sri Lanka and has totally fallen in love with it and its people. She now has an intimate knowledge of the country having spent 4 months working there and researching all the hotels and activities on offer. She has become committed to helping the people too, so much so she has raised money in the UK to build 3 Tsunami houses (see photos) together with helping a variety of projects at Tissa Central College, Kaluthara.

• Many people in Sri Lanka work in the tourism industry and because of the smaller number of tourists in the last few years, many people have been put out of work. We also felt that the high costs that the majority of tour operators were charging were also putting tourists off. With this in mind, The Unique Travel Company (Sri Lanka) Limited was born. We know that we can provide a better service to you, the Tourist, at less cost while providing work for may people in Sri Lanka. We are happy to make a much smaller profit than our competitors-we feel this is what responsible tourism is about.

• We are a truly ethical company giving our staff a decent living wage unlike many of our competitors. All our tour guides are local Tourist Board approved and qualified which will give you the best opportunity to find out about the area you are visiting.

• We do not visit shops everyday because we aren’t interested in commissions and we feel in this way the Tourist will get the best value for money.

• We shall also carry on helping a variety of projects across the island giving people the necessary aid to help themselves.

• We have become aware that foreigners have been put off coming to Sri Lanka because they feel it’s unsafe, but they can both say that it’s an extremely safe destination. So don’t believe all you read in the newspapers.
