National Parks

Gal Oya National Park

  • Boat Safari to see the swimming elephants as they swim between the islands – is known as the “crossing” (particularly between March to July)
  • Game drive into the National Park to see monkeys, wild boar, water buffalo, elephants and many birds

Ude Walawe National Park

  • Game drive into the National Park to see the large herds of elephants but you would also see spotted deer, buffaloes, crocodiles and many birds
  • Elephant Transit Camp located close to the entrance to Ude Walawe National Park. This is run by the Born Free Foundation and they look after about 30 orphan baby elephants. You can watch them being fed with milk.

Wasgamuwa National Park

  • Game Drive Into The National Park - less busy than most Parks and famous for its elephants.

Wilpattu – excursions near

  • Wilpattu National Park – this is a very beautiful Park famous for its leopards and less busy than most so much more enjoyable for humans and animals alike!

Yala – excursions near

  • Game drive into Yala National Park where you can see elephants, crocodiles, deer, wild boar, monitor lizards, water buffalo etc. There is also a very rich birdlife and there is always a chance of seeing a leopard or if you are lucky, a sloth bear. At Yala, you have the highest percentage chance of anywhere in the world of being able to see a leopard.
  • Kataragama Temple  is one of the most important for all Hindus on the island and is one of the few places in Sri Lanka which is worshipped by Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and indigenous Veddah communities of Sri Lanka and South India.
  • Bundala National Park – particularly famous for its bird population. Has an internationally important wintering ground for migratory water birds.
