Flights to Sri Lanka from the UK
There are several airlines that fly from the UK to Sri Lanka. The only direct flights to Colombo International Airport (CMB) are operated by Sri Lankan Airlines. All the other airlines either go via the Middle East or Bangalore in India. It is best to shop around between the Airlines as they can all offer very competitive prices at different times.
Sri Lankan Airlines

Sri Lankan Airlines is the only airline that offers a direct service to Colombo. Flights are from London Heathrow, Terminal 3. A few flights stop for a very short time at Male in the Maldives but the majority are non stop.
Qatar Airways

These flights are from London Heathrow, London Gatwick as well as a few from Manchester. All flights have a stop-over in Doha.
Emirates

These flights are from London Heathrow, London Gatwick as well as a few from Manchester. All flights have a stop-over in Dubai.
Colombo Airport
Colombo International Airport (CMB) is also known as Bandaranaike International Airport or Katunayake International Airport. It is about one hour’s drive north of Colombo city center and is about 30mins drive south of Negombo.
Visas
You will need to obtain an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) prior to your visit to Sri Lanka. You can apply directly for an online ETA by visiting the following website: www.eta.gov.lk
The cost for the ETA is 35US$ (about £28) if you are a UK citizen.
Children under the age of 12 are free.
When applying, you will need your passport details, flight details and the name and address of your first hotel on your tour.
Payment is made by either credit card or e-commerce enabled debit cards. Only Visa, MasterCard and American Express Cards are accepted.
Please do take the ETA with you when you travel.
If you find that you can’t apply for one before you travel, you can obtain a Visa on entering Sri Lanka, for 40US$pp (about £32).
Do not apply too early as it is only valid for 90 days from the date you apply.
