Galle Face Hotel in Colombo
by admin-unique | May 30, 2019 | Colombo and its Environs, Hotels
In the colonial era the hotel began life as a Dutch villa in which people of importance met together. Four such gentlemen bought the building in 1864 and converted it into the luxury hotel it is today.
Originally called the Galle Face House in its past life during colonial times, it was named the Galle Face Hotel when it was converted into a hotel. As it may be obvious to anyone who knows the historic city of Galle, the hotel is named after the Galle Face Green which is an expanse of recreational grassed land on the edge of the Indian Ocean which is next to the hotel.
This is a highly recommended hotel to stay in when visiting Colombo.
Do note that you cannot swim in the sea here due to strong currents.
