This Luxury Sri Lanka tour is for those who want to see the main sites of Sri Lanka  at a relaxed pace enjoying some of the best luxury boutique hotels that Sri Lanka has to offer which will really give you a feel of the renowned Sri Lankan hospitality.

You can be as busy or as relaxed as you want – this is your holiday! The typical itinerary we have shown below gives you an idea of what is available.

You are welcome to add in additional nights at places that are of interest to you or to include adventure activities such as white water rafting or whale watching (these will be subject to extra costs).


Itinerary

Day 1

Transfer from the airport.

Overnight at Horathapola Estate, Wadumunnegedara.


Day 2

Drive to Wilpattu and do a GAME DRIVE INTO WILPATTU NATIONAL PARK. This is a very beautiful Park with dense jungle opening onto wide lakes. It is particularly famous for its populations of leopards and sloth bears but you may see other animals such as crocodiles, water buffalo, and many birds. It isn’t as busy as many other Parks.

Overnight at Ulagalla, Anuradhapura.


Day 3

Visit the ancient city of ANURADHAPURA (UNESCO World Heritage Site) – this is the first capital city of Sri Lanka and dates from 3rd century BC. Some of the buildings here are vast and the tallest temple when built was only second in size to the Pyramids.

Free afternoon.

Overnight at Ulagalla, Anuradhapura.


Day 4

Visit the iconic ROCK FORTRESS AT SIGIRIYA (UNESCO World Heritage Site)– this dates from fifth century A.D. There is much to see here including water gardens, frescoes, Lions paws and of course the Palace on the top where there are fantastic views of the surrounding countryside.

Free afternoon.

Overnight at Vil Uyana, Sigiriya.


Day 5

Free morning.

Do a GAME DRIVE INTO MINNERIYA NATIONAL PARK to see all the elephants that gather on the shore of the lake there. There are particularly large numbers between June and September (when water gets in short supply) where there can be up to 300 elephants. However you will also see animals such as water buffalo, spotted deer and many birds.

Overnight at Vil Uyana, Sigiriya.


Day 6

Visit DAMBULLA CAVE TEMPLE (UNESCO World Heritage Site)– this is the largest painted cave Temple in the world and dates from the first century BC.

Visit a SPICE GARDEN to see how Sri Lankan herbs and spices are used in Ayurvedic medicine.

Drive to KANDY – this was the last royal capital city of Sri Lanka and is said to be the most picturesque as it nestles in the hills with the lake at the bottom.

Overnight at The Kandy House, Kandy.


Day 7

In Kandy, visit the ROYAL BOTANICAL GARDENS to see the many indigenous trees of Sri Lanka.

Free afternoon to do as you wish.

In the late afternoon, visit the CULTURAL SHOW – this is a performance of Kandyan dance, music and costume.

Visit the TEMPLE OF THE TOOTH (UNESCO World Heritage Site)– this is the most venerated temple in the world for Buddhists and is said to be where Lord Buddha`s Tooth relic is kept.

Overnight at The Kandy House, Kandy.


Day 8

Visit a TEA FACTORY to see how tea is produced.

Overnight at The Lavender House, Pussellawa – this is a chance to experience what it is like to stay in an old colonial tea planter’s bungalow.


Day 9

Drive up through mountains covered in TEA PLANTATIONS up to NUWARA ELIYA (this is a really beautiful drive) have a chance to explore Nuwara Eliya (this is known as Little England) – this is where the colonials used to escape to when it was too hot on the coastal plains and has a very British feel about it. Perhaps take afternoon tea at The Grand.

Day 10

Drive to the South West coast.

On the way, visit PINNEWALA ELEPHANT ORPHANAGE – where you can see about 50 rescued elephants playing in the River.

Overnight at The Reef, Wadduwa- Main House, Suite Nelum.


Day 11

Free day.

Overnight at The Reef, Wadduwa –Main House, Suite Nelum.


Day 12

Take a BOAT RIDE ON THE MADU RIVER where you can see the mangrove swamps and fishermen casting their nets as well as all the wildlife.

Visit a TURTLE HATCHERY to see one, two, and three day old baby turtles.

Visit the DUTCH FORT AT GALLE (UNESCO World Heritage Site) – this is where they used to house the spices. Take a walk a round the ramparts and visit the buildings such as the Dutch church, the lighthouse etc.

Day 13

Free Day.

Overnight at The Reef, Wadduwa – Main House, Suite Nelum.


Day 14

Drive to COLOMBO AND DO A CITY TOUR taking in the main highlights.

Overnight at Residence By Uga, Colombo.


Day 15

transfer to the airport – takes about 45 minutes.
